Meet the Director, Mrs. Heather CaPEZZUTI
After 26 years of teaching at WT, Mrs. Heather Capezzuti became Director of Lower School North Campus in July 2017. Previously, she served as the Lower School North Campus science teacher, where she was known for developing dynamic, hands-on science programs using the seven-acre campus’s outdoor classrooms, and forging community partnerships to enrich students’ understanding of and appreciation for science research and the outdoors.
As Director, she will continue to focus on rigorous academics balanced with character development. Through the school's City as Our Campus program she intends to further develop collaborations with community partners that put students' classroom learning to the test solving real-world problems. She will support and expand the cross-campus collaborations which provide WT Lower School students the best of both worlds: the verdant, seven rolling acres of the Lower School North Campus and the urban setting with easy access to Pittsburgh's top educational and cultural resources of the City Campus.
Capezzuti holds a Bachelor of Science degree from The Pennsylvania State University and a Master of Education degree from Clarion University of Pennsylvania.
Capezzuti's career at WT includes teaching both science and computer science at all grade levels at both the North Hills and City campuses. In her early years at WT, Capezzuti lived in the Lower School North Campus farmhouse before growing enrollment necessitated reimagining the farmhouse into a classroom. This unique experience gives her an unparalleled depth of knowledge of the campus, its history, and its evolution. Additionally, Capezzuti's two children attended the Lower School North Campus.
